Committee
Our committee is comprised of a group of real workers committed to promoting the Mining Heritage of Mt Kembla.
We represent a wide cross section of the Mt Kembla Community, as our membership includes people from most of the Villages' other community groups, including the core committee of the Mine Disaster Centenary 2002.
We openly welcome any person interested, to attend our meetings and assist by sharing ideas, skills, knowledge and contributing their time and effort, with the work to be done in promoting Mt Kembla's Mining Heritage and associated activities. We also have some history research groups who are compiling our social history past and present.
What we aim to achieve
To promote our Mining Heritage by holding an annual Festival with activities which relate to our past and present. This Festival will be held each year on the weekend closest to the time of the Mt Kembla Mine Disaster - 31st July 1902.
Committee Contact
Our long-term objective is to:
- Establish a permanent home for our Mining Heritage Display in Mt Kembla
- Open up the old Mt Kembla Mine site to contain walkways and viewing platforms to showcase this site of historic significance
- To link the above site to a Mining Heritage Trail linking all significant mine sites on the Illawarra escarpment
- To work with any or all groups in the community for the benefit of the Village of Mt Kembla
- For more information email info@mtkembla.org.au or download the Short and Long Term goals below.
